Farm – Cottage with 2 bedrooms
& 2 bathrooms for 4/6 people
Le Hautbois is two miles from the once fortified village of Laurac le
Grand, in the Aude department of the Languedoc. It is near to two
world-protected monuments, the walled city of Carcassonne (30 mins
drive) and the Canal du Midi (10 mins) and 15 mins from the medieval
town square of Mirepoix with it’s a superb Monday market. The
farm is near the foothills of the Pyrenees ---where you can explore the
Cathar castles or tours the high mountains as far as Andorra --- yet is
only an hour's drive from the Mediterranean coast. The market-town of
Castelnaudary, with shops, supermarkets, restaurants is just 10 minutes
drive but for those who love nature and wildlife you don't have to get
in a car. Nevertheless, driving the quiet country-roads is an
old-fashoined pleasure !

The
cottage and the nearly farmhouse share a large clearing in
the woods. This is a region of narrow country roads and the farm is up
its own lane, so there is no passing traffic. Children can play and
room the woods, make friends with the donkeys, build dens, in absolute
safety. There is plenty of garden space to sit around the pool, in sun
or shade, and for barbecue-ing.
The
pool is a new type of above-ground pool, with extra-strong
sides so that it does not need to be sunken in the ground. They
function in every respect like a normal sunken pool, having the same
type of filtration-system ; they have become popular because they do
not need planning permission & they conform more easily to the
recent French legislation on pool safety. The size is 4m x 6.50m, depth
1.2Om, large enough for a family of 5 or 6 to bathe together, and you
would have exclusive use.

THE
COTTAGE
Is well built of brick and wood on two
floors and well equipped (It was, until recently, someone’s
permanent home) There is a large living-kitchen with cooker hob and
oven, fridge, micro wave, toaster, coffee maker and good range of
cooking & dinning utensils. There is a washing machine and TV.
The living-space includes a double sofa bed & leads to an
en-suite bathroom. On the upper floor there are two bedrooms, one with
2 single beds and one with a double bed and a shower-room (shower,
hand-basin & WC).
For those seeking a peaceful and comfortable holiday retreat at a
modest price -–yet with modern facilities close by --
Hautbois represents very good value. It is by far the cheapest of our
gites with a pool. |

When we have agreed availability we will ask you to
send us an ordinary British bank cheque (or agreed alternative) for
one-quarter of the total rent; on receipt of that we write to confirm
the reservation with advice on further payment
(We simply ask you to send another cheque for the
rest 2 months before the holiday).
The rents quoted here include all services, bedding, house towels and
fuel.
